As part of Booking.com's Connected Trip vision, the Insurance business is developing a global footprint of insurance product offerings. The Core Android Developer will join the Car Hire Insurance & Flexibility Team in Amsterdam and expand two mobile experiences in Booking.com's Android app: Car Hire Insurance, which protects customers when they rent a car, and Flexibility products for Accommodation, which allow guests to change their plans.

The role involves working with native mobile teams, UX designers, app developers, data analysts, backend developers, product owners, and quality specialists to create seamless customer experiences and increase engagement and bookings.

Responsibilities

• Develop new features in collaboration with other native Android developers.
• Collaborate with the Insurance Mobile Apps team to create a seamless experience across mobile platforms.
• Maintain the quality of the Booking.com app in production by monitoring crashes, responding to incidents, resolving complex bugs, and leading incident investigations when necessary.
• Help colleagues grow professionally and take a significant role in onboarding new team members.
• Continuously improve owned services by optimizing performance and resource usage.
• Keep Insurance products and new features up to date with current technology standards and department guidelines.
• Meet service-level agreements for test coverage and quality by implementing tests and processes.
• Profile applications to identify bottlenecks, optimize performance, and establish and monitor app health metrics.
• Connect business and product goals to complex technical tasks.
• Prioritize issue resolution based on customer impact.
• Collaborate with app developers, backend developers, product owners, and quality specialists to continuously improve the customer experience within the app platform.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience as an Android Developer, with Kotlin as the primary language.
• Strong, hands-on experience building production user interfaces with Jetpack Compose.
• Solid understanding of Kotlin Coroutines and Flow for asynchronous and reactive programming.
• Experience with modern Android architecture, including MVVM/MVI, Jetpack ViewModel, and Navigation.
• Experience with dependency injection using Hilt or Dagger.
• Solid experience writing unit, UI, Compose/Espresso, and screenshot tests.
• Experience with multi-module Gradle projects.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Full professional comfort working in spoken and written English.
• Strong knowledge of the Android framework, problem-solving ability, initiative, and willingness to address challenges at scale.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of full-stack engineering and backend software concepts.
• Experience with A/B testing and release planning.
• Experience with GraphQL, including schema design, queries, mutations, and fragments, ideally in a federated setup.
• Experience profiling Android apps using Android Studio Profiler, Baseline Profiles, and Macrobenchmark.
• Experience shipping an app to the Google Play Store.
