Reddit Consumer Engineering builds and scales products that users directly use to discover content, participate in communities, and connect with others. Android Software Engineers work with Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Backend Engineers, and other mobile engineers to build, experiment with, and scale experiences that help hundreds of millions of users discover, join, navigate, and engage with Reddit.

This centralized role hires across several consumer teams, including Core Product & Feeds, Community & Presence, Growth & Engagement, Monetization & Conversion, and Identity & Security.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve user-facing Android experiences that help people discover, consume, create, and engage with content and communities.
  • Lead projects through the full development lifecycle, from product definition and technical design to implementation, experimentation, launch, and ongoing improvement.
  • Partner with product, design, data science, ML, backend, and platform teams to shape strategy, translate technical capabilities into intuitive experiences, and deliver measurable user impact.
  • Improve Android architecture, performance, reliability, accessibility, developer workflows, and engineering standards.
  • Mentor teammates and drive cross-functional technical initiatives.

Requirements

  • Professional experience developing native Android applications with Kotlin and a strong understanding of Android frameworks and application architecture.
  • Ability to write idiomatic, readable, reusable, and testable code.
  • Strong skills in debugging, performance optimization, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Experience designing mobile systems and interfaces, evaluating architectural tradeoffs, and building scalable features from APIs through user-facing UI.
  • Experience with experimentation, feature flags, instrumentation, analytics, and product or quality-of-experience metrics.
  • Candidates should be experienced Android engineers who have built and shipped consumer-facing native applications at scale using Kotlin.
  • Strategic, product-minded approach with the ability to connect technical decisions to user and business outcomes.
  • Clear and collaborative communication skills, including the ability to explain complex tradeoffs, influence stakeholders, and build alignment across teams.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, ownership, and a willingness to embrace experimentation, learn from setbacks, improve processes, and help others succeed.
  • Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, Android accessibility, Media3 or ExoPlayer, MediaCodec, HLS or DASH, recommendation systems, or ML-integrated products is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $164,200–$229,900 USD. The role is also eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units and, depending on the position offered, may be eligible to receive a commission. U.S.-based benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) program with employer match, generous vacation time, and parental leave.
