Details

Develop and improve optimization models that support real-time trading decisions and the operation of Eneco’s diverse energy asset portfolio, including batteries, conventional generation assets, wind farms, and solar parks. The role covers the full lifecycle of data-driven solutions, from analysing challenges and designing models to building, testing, deploying, monitoring, and continuously improving production systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and improve optimization models for energy asset dispatch.
  • Translate contracts, market opportunities, and asset behaviour into mathematical models.
  • Develop clean, modular Python code and contribute to production-quality solutions.
  • Improve model monitoring and reliability using real-time and realised asset data.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, developers, traders, dispatchers, technology, forecasting, and operations teams.
  • Support international rollouts and the continued development of advanced battery optimization capabilities.
  • Monitor model performance, resolve incidents, and use operational learnings to strengthen the optimization platform.
  • Identify opportunities to create additional business value and turn ideas into practical solutions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, physics, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 1 to 4 years of relevant experience in data science, analytics, or a comparable role.
  • Strong Python skills and an understanding of clean code, testing, and monitoring.
  • Experience with mathematical modelling, optimization, or algorithm development.
  • Experience with cloud-based data environments, preferably Azure, Databricks, or similar tools.
  • Ability to understand business needs and translate them into robust, data-driven solutions.
  • Experience in energy, trading, or consulting is advantageous.
  • Strong English communication skills; Dutch is advantageous but not required.
  • Currently living in the Netherlands.

Work Environment

The position is part of the Analytics & Realization domain within Trade Operations & IT. The Asset Optimization team consists of four data scientists and a team lead and works closely with developers, short-term desk traders, dispatchers, and operations colleagues. The role is based at Eneco World in Rotterdam and follows a hybrid working model, combining office collaboration with working from home.
