We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to play a pivotal role in scaling ABN AMRO's cyber detection and response capabilities. The role involves implementing data transformation at scale, sentiment analysis, and Agentic workflows to improve security controls and accelerate security response in an AI-dominant threat landscape.

You will design, build, and deploy advanced machine learning solutions into production environments while collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior colleagues, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and innovation. The role is part of CISO Cyber Defence, a diverse team operating in an agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Agentic workflows that strengthen security controls and enhance automation.
  • Identify problems and opportunities within the Cyber Defence domain and use data science to address them.
  • Work with stakeholders to determine business value and guide them toward optimal solutions.
  • Build domain knowledge and perform extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of large, complex datasets.
  • Apply state-of-the-art statistical and data science techniques, balancing simplicity and sophistication where appropriate.
  • Evaluate and deploy machine learning models effectively in production environments.
  • Communicate results and insights clearly to stakeholders.
  • Educate end users to maximize the value of implemented solutions.
  • Assist and mentor junior team members.
  • Host or initiate knowledge-sharing sessions to improve team efficiency and expertise.

Requirements

  • A quantitative MSc, PhD, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in data science or machine learning; the vacancy also indicates 5+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in machine learning algorithms and frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
  • Strong expertise in AKS and MCP techniques.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, KQ, and SQL.
  • Expertise in statistics, mathematics, and experiment design.
  • Proficiency in implementing Agentic workflows.
  • Proficiency in ETL processes and working with big data systems.
  • Strong consultancy, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, mentoring, and prioritisation skills.
  • A passion for data, machine learning, and cybersecurity.

Working Environment

You will join CISO Cyber Defence, which consists of 145 professionals within an organisation of more than 450 cybersecurity employees. The team works collaboratively in an agile environment and focuses on protecting ABN AMRO's customers, employees, and the bank against cyber threats.

Benefits

  • Gross monthly salary of €5,847–€8,353 based on a 36-hour work week, including holiday allowance and a flexible benefit budget.
  • Excellent pension scheme.
  • Hybrid working, with working from home possible in consultation with the team and depending on the role.
  • Ergonomic home office setup.
  • Five weeks of vacation per year, two mandatory days off, and the option to purchase up to four additional weeks annually.
  • Five additional “Banking for better days” for personal development or volunteer work.
  • Annual personal development budget of €1,000, which can accumulate up to €3,000.
  • Annual public transport pass providing free public transportation throughout the Netherlands for business and private use.
  • Employment conditions and salary scales governed by the applicable Collective Labour Agreement (CLA).
