Details

You'll partner with Developer Productivity engineering leadership to define what developer productivity means in an AI-first organization and establish a strategy for measuring, understanding, and improving it. You will own the data strategy end to end, including selecting trusted metrics, challenging assumptions, and building evidence to guide tooling and infrastructure investments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ambiguous, high-stakes investigations into developer productivity and AI-assisted development.
  • Instrument systems, collect evidence, and revise conclusions as new data becomes available.
  • Partner with Developer Productivity engineering leadership to set the measurement and research agenda.
  • Define and drive adoption of a metrics framework for developer productivity in an AI-augmented organization.
  • Design and run experiments on internal tooling and workflow changes.
  • Build a causal evidence base for determining what improves productivity.
  • Influence engineering, infrastructure, and product leadership with data-backed conclusions.
  • Build analytical foundations, including pipelines, dashboards, and models, independently or through partners.

Requirements

  • Production-quality SQL and Python, or a similar programming language, for independently building pipelines, dashboards, and models.
  • Experience serving as the primary data or analytics voice in an ambiguous problem space and helping define the questions.
  • A track record of favoring instrumentation and evidence-gathering, and revising conclusions when warranted by the data.
  • Experience shaping engineering or product priorities before decisions are made.
  • Genuine interest in how AI is changing software development, with firsthand experience addressing ambiguous aspects of that question.
  • Comfort presenting data-backed conclusions to engineering audiences.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eight or more years of hands-on data science experience is preferred, ideally in infrastructure, performance, or platform contexts.
  • Experience with developer productivity, developer experience, internal tooling, AI-assisted workflows, experimentation, or causal inference is preferred.
  • Prior staff-level or tech-lead scope is preferred, including setting direction for individual contributors and owning a domain's data strategy end to end.
