Data Scientist, Policy

Anthropic is seeking a Data Scientist dedicated to policy work. The role sits at the intersection of data science and public affairs, transforming internal product usage, survey, external, and public data into clear and consistent evidence for the Policy team. The analyses will help inform legislators, regulators, and the public about Anthropic's footprint and contribution.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product and business teams to produce analyses and data collateral for policy position papers and partnership conversations.
• Determine which metrics faithfully represent Anthropic to legislators, regulators, and the public.
• Own dashboards and pipelines that keep externally shared numbers consistent.
• Use AI tools to aggregate news, policy developments, and other public data sources to track trends and monitor the evolving regulatory landscape.
• Develop measurement frameworks for policy communications, paid media, and public-affairs campaigns.
• Design and implement policy analyses to support internal position development and measure the impact of policy implementation for external audiences.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data analysis tools, with experience working with external and public data sources.
• Experience producing analyses for external audiences, including policy, communications, investor relations, public affairs, or published research.
• Applied causal inference experience using quasi-experimental designs such as difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity, synthetic control, instrumental variables, or matching to measure policy or program impact from observational data.
• Ability to translate complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for audiences with differing levels of technical fluency.
• Preferred: 6+ years of hands-on data science experience.
• Preferred: Direct experience supporting policy, government affairs, or regulatory teams with data and analysis.
• Preferred: Familiarity with investor-relations or financial-disclosure data standards and their consistency requirements.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Work Policy

Staff are expected to work from one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.

Visa Sponsorship

Anthropic sponsors visas, although sponsorship is not available for every role and candidate. The company makes reasonable efforts to obtain visas and retains an immigration lawyer to assist with the process.
