About the team
The Developer Experience team at OpenAI focuses on empowering developers globally by providing tools, resources, demos, sample projects, and content that make it easy to integrate AI into applications. The team works closely with product, engineering, research, and GTM teams to ensure a seamless developer journey from the first API call to full production deployment.
Role summary
As a Developer Experience Engineer, you will create technical content, developer tools, and sample applications to inspire and enable developers to succeed with OpenAI's APIs, platform, and products. You will build demos and integrations using frontier models (for example OpenAI o3 and GPT-4.1), multimodal capabilities, and agent tools like Codex, engage with developers and technical founders, and help shape the developer experience across documentation, SDKs, and sample apps.
Responsibilities
- Develop demos and sample applications demonstrating integrations and best practices using reasoning models, multimodal capabilities, and agent tools.
- Create high-quality technical content including tutorials, blog posts, videos, and code samples to educate and inspire the developer community about models, APIs, and Codex.
- Engage with and foster a local and global developer ecosystem around OpenAI's platform.
- Represent OpenAI at developer events and online platforms as an approachable advocate for developers.
- Gather and synthesize developer feedback to inform and enhance the product roadmap.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and marketing to ensure adoption and success of developer tools and APIs.
- Contribute directly to improving and refining OpenAI's developer interfaces and surfaces.
- Own challenges end-to-end, proactively addressing gaps and acquiring new skills to resolve complex issues.
Requirements
- Passion for crafting exceptional developer experiences and creating inspirational technical content and projects.
- Robust full-stack engineering background with demonstrated experience building applications using AI and large language models (LLMs).
- Proven track record creating engaging technical content, compelling demos, or developer tooling that accelerates technology adoption.
- Strong user empathy and commitment to delivering experiences developers appreciate.
- Enjoy coding and continuously shipping high-quality, impactful software.
- Ability to excel in dynamic environments with rapidly evolving priorities and ambiguity.
- Exceptional collaborator who thrives working cross-functionally with diverse teams.

- Base salary range listed externally: $280K - $345K; total compensation may include equity and performance-related bonuses.
