Developer Experience Engineer

Details

The Developer Experience team empowers developers globally by providing tools, resources, and support for integrating AI into applications and products. The team creates demos, developer tools, sample applications, and technical content for building with Codex, frontier models such as GPT-5.5 and GPT-Image-2, multimodal capabilities, and AI agents.

The role focuses on creating technical content, developer tools, and sample applications that help developers succeed with Codex, OpenAI's APIs, and other developer products. The engineer will engage with developers and technical founders, demonstrate best practices, and build innovative applications powered by frontier models and multimodal capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop demos and sample applications showcasing best practices for building with Codex, frontier models, multimodal capabilities, and agents.
• Create technical content, including tutorials, blog posts, videos, and code samples, to educate and inspire the developer community.
• Engage with and foster a local and global developer ecosystem around OpenAI's platform and products.
• Represent OpenAI at developer events and online as a knowledgeable and approachable developer advocate.
• Gather and synthesize developer feedback to inform and improve the product roadmap.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and marketing teams to drive adoption and success across OpenAI's developer products, including Codex and its APIs.
• Contribute directly to improving and refining OpenAI's developer products, interfaces, and surfaces.
• Own challenges end-to-end, proactively closing gaps and developing new skills to solve complex problems.

Requirements

• Passion for crafting exceptional developer experiences and creating inspirational technical content and projects.
• Robust full-stack engineering background.
• Demonstrated experience building innovative applications using artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs).
• Strong user empathy and a commitment to delivering experiences developers appreciate.
• Proven track record of creating engaging technical content, compelling demos, or innovative developer tooling that accelerates technology adoption.
• Enjoyment of coding and continuously shipping high-quality, impactful software.
• Ability to work effectively in dynamic environments with evolving priorities, ambiguity, and competing deadlines.
• Exceptional collaboration skills and the ability to partner with diverse teams.
• Commitment to AI ethics and safety and alignment with OpenAI's responsible AI development principles.
