Details
The Strategic Finance team shapes the company’s financial strategy and plays a critical role in capital allocation decisions. Its Data Science function focuses on forecasting business and financial metrics, supporting target attainment, enabling complex modeling and analysis, and scaling recurring work through automation and dashboarding.
This managerial role partners with Strategic Finance, Product, and GTM Data Science teams. Reporting to the VP of Strategic Finance, the role works with finance leadership to drive data-driven decision-making, improve data fluency, and influence financial outcomes.
The role is based in San Francisco, California, with a hybrid work model requiring three days in the office per week.
Responsibilities
- Develop accurate forecasts for product usage, revenue, compute consumption, and their underlying drivers to enable real-time tracking of key metrics and trajectories.
- Become an expert in OpenAI’s data and systems through collaboration with Data Engineering, Finance, and other Data Science teams.
- Design and deliver dashboards for metrics that affect financial performance.
- Lead metrics reviews with Strategic Finance and finance leadership, interpreting dashboard trends and surfacing actionable insights.
- Drive automation of standardized reporting, analysis, and processes across revenue segments and compute spend.
- Build and mentor a high-performing team.
- Support critical business decisions through ad hoc analysis.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
- 12+ years of experience in a Data Science role at a dynamic, outcome-driven organization.
- Proficiency with critical analytical tools, including SQL.
- Extensive experience building production-ready models for time-series applications.
- Experience building adjustable and explainable forecast models for multiple planning cycles.
- Experience conducting open-ended research into new forecasting methodologies.
- Ability to distill complex financial information into actionable insights for leadership.
- Excellent communication and data storytelling skills.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and contribute flexibly to business priorities.
- Knowledge of Python.
- Prior management experience.
