Details
The API team builds the foundation that enables developers to harness OpenAI’s models safely, reliably, and at scale. The team is responsible for the infrastructure and product layers that allow developers to integrate models, fine-tune behavior, manage data, and deliver user experiences, working closely with product, research, and engineering teams.
This role defines and guides how developers build agentic applications on top of AI models. It involves setting priorities, improving model capabilities, balancing user needs with safety considerations, and collaborating with customers, engineers, and researchers to solve challenging and ambiguous problems. The position is based in San Francisco, California, with relocation assistance available.
Responsibilities
- Understand the challenges faced by agent builders and identify opportunities to make building agents faster, more intuitive, reliable, and powerful.
- Define strategic priorities and the roadmap for improving agentic infrastructure for API users.
- Focus on user outcomes and emerging capabilities.
- Partner with research and engineering teams at a technical level to translate priorities into developer products and features, including SDKs and APIs.
- Deliver quickly while maintaining a high bar for product quality and user experience.
Requirements
- 5+ years of product management or related industry experience.
- Proven track record of building for developers.
- Strong intuition for designing clear, flexible APIs and primitives that scale from early experimentation to production use.
- Experience collaborating directly and deeply with high-growth technology companies.
- Hands-on experience driving consensus and action in ambiguous spaces.
- Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and communicate complex ideas clearly.
