Details
The API team builds the infrastructure and product layers that enable developers to use OpenAI models safely, reliably, and at scale. The team works across model serving, API access, billing, developer tooling, enterprise integrations, infrastructure engineering, developer experience, and data systems.
The Product Manager will define and scale data processing, data privacy, billing, and access control products. This includes expanding regional data processing, enabling inference caching controls in the API, building APIs for managing organizational spend limits, and delivering foundational capabilities for secure, private, enterprise-grade use of OpenAI products. The role partners with engineering, security, legal, compliance, finance, and leadership teams.
The role is based in San Francisco, California, and follows a hybrid model requiring three days in the office per week.
Responsibilities
- Develop an enterprise data control plane to securely access and manage enterprise data for large language model use.
- Drive product strategy for safety controls, privacy features, access management, and API usage and cost visibility.
- Build and improve data governance capabilities, including retention, encryption, audit logs, permissions, and lifecycle management.
- Lead development of access control models, identity flows such as SSO, SAML, and SCIM, and administrative tooling.
- Oversee usage metering, cost dashboards, alerts, budgeting tools, and predictable API cost experiences.
- Lead large, complex, highly technical cross-functional teams and drive alignment across technical and regulatory environments.
Requirements
- Experience with security, privacy, data infrastructure, or usage-based platform products.
- Strong understanding of data governance, access controls, and enterprise identity.
- Experience with usage metering, cost-management tooling, or billing-adjacent systems.
- Ability to work across security, legal, engineering, compliance, and finance domains.
- Strong systems thinking and analytical skills, with comfort operating in high-risk, high-trust areas.
- Proven experience leading large, complex, highly technical cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to drive alignment across complex technical and regulatory environments.
- Mentoring or leading others is a plus.
