Details
Anthropic is hiring a Research Operations Specialist to own the operations of risk reports and related external safety artifacts. The role works closely with Frontier Red Team, Safeguards, Alignment, Interpretability, and capabilities research teams to coordinate complex, multi-author technical documents and communicate frontier risk assessments clearly to researchers, policymakers, journalists, and the public.
Responsibilities
- Drive risk report production end to end, including timelines, contributor lists, and open-threads tracking.
- Coordinate contributors across Frontier Red Team, Safeguards, Alignment, Interpretability, and capabilities research.
- Chase drafts, resolve disagreements, identify ground truth, and run final editing and polishing passes.
- Edit and occasionally write content that translates evaluation results, threat models, and plots into clear, precise, non-marketing prose.
- Maintain consistent terminology, voice, and accuracy across sections written by multiple contributors.
- Identify contradictions between risk claims, internal findings, and draft content.
- Keep risk reports aligned with system cards, Responsible Scaling Policy disclosures, and other safety documentation.
- Improve the reporting process by developing templates, style guidance, and contributor checklists.
- Support other research-adjacent operations and writing work related to external artifacts and Anthropic's Responsible Scaling Policy.
Requirements
- Demonstrated technical writing ability, with the capacity to turn dense, jargon-heavy source material into precise and readable prose for smart non-specialists.
- Working conceptual knowledge of large language models, including pretraining, RLHF, context windows, evaluations, red-teaming, and capability thresholds.
- Ability to read evaluation result tables, ask clarifying questions, and identify gaps in technical arguments.
- Track record of driving complex, multi-contributor projects to completion against hard deadlines.
- Minimum education of a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong project coordination skills and experience managing parallel open threads across contributors with competing priorities.
- Ability to coordinate and influence research and engineering teams without direct authority.
- Ability to evaluate whether charts and tables are clear and accurate.
- Familiarity with AI safety, AI policy, alignment research, national security operations or policy, or threat modeling.
- Experience with safety or compliance documentation, such as safety cases, risk assessments, security disclosures, or clinical or scientific reporting.
- Background in science communication, research publishing, or technical journalism.
- Experience shipping long-form technical documents, including research reports, whitepapers, standards, or regulatory filings.
- Experience producing polished, visually consistent documents with strong layout and presentation judgment.
- Comfort using frontier LLM tools as a productivity aid without substituting them for independent judgment.
Work Arrangement
The role is remote-friendly in the United States. Anthropic currently expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
Compensation
The annual salary range is $260,000–$310,000 USD.
Benefits
Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and office space for collaboration. Anthropic sponsors visas where possible and makes reasonable efforts to support visa processing with an immigration lawyer.
