Senior Backend Engineer, Safety

Reddit is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build high-impact tools and features for moderators within the Safety and Moderation organization. This role works closely with frontend and mobile engineers, product partners, and design partners to support one of the largest sites in the world. The position is completely remote-friendly within the United States, with optional access to offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago.

Responsibilities

• Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering counterparts to execute product and business strategy and build new products and features.
• Contribute to the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
• Review code and design documents and provide feedback on product specifications and mockups.
• Lead a team of engineers and establish standards that improve developer workflows.
• Recommend best practices and coach and mentor engineers to support their professional development.
• Drive technical and product strategy, operations, architecture, and execution.
• Continuously improve technical and non-technical skills.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby.
• Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, and Thrift or gRPC basics.
• Ability to design and implement maintainable APIs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
• Self-directed, innovative, action-oriented approach in fast-paced and ambiguous environments.
• Experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams in a fully remote environment.
• Ability to discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $190,800–$267,100 USD. The role may also be eligible for commission depending on the position offered.
