Reddit is seeking a product-minded Senior Software Engineer to build the next generation of media creation tools. The role focuses on defining backend architecture for capturing, editing, and publishing video and image content, solving complex technical challenges, and delivering high-quality media experiences globally.

Responsibilities

Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams to execute product and business strategies and build new products and features.
Own backend infrastructure for media creation, including fast, maintainable APIs that integrate with frontend clients to support real-time creator experiences.
Contribute to the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
Participate as part of a thoughtful, fast-moving, and motivated engineering team.
Improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and mentor junior engineers.
Balance speed and quality while building new products and avoiding critical bugs.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 3 years of industry experience with large-scale distributed systems.
At least 5 years of hands-on professional software development experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Ruby, Java, or C++.
Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and Thrift basics, including designing and implementing maintainable APIs.
Experience with distributed caching layers and large-scale distributed data storage systems such as Redis.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on schedule.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment with technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong product thinking and experience translating complex user workflows, such as video editing timelines or AI generation tools, into robust backend state management.
Experience building asynchronous media processing pipelines and scalable event-driven microservices.
Familiarity with background data fetching.
Strong data analysis skills using SQL.
Hands-on experience with FFMPEG, GPAC, or similar media frameworks for processing, modifying, and manipulating media streams.

Compensation

The base salary range is $190,000–$267,000 USD. Final offer amounts depend on factors including skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses or credentials. Depending on the position offered, the role may also be eligible to receive a commission.
