Details

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join the FX IT DevOps team. You will build, maintain, and improve enterprise software with a direct impact on the Foreign Exchange business. This is a hands-on engineering role involving end-to-end ownership, collaboration with Financial Markets stakeholders, technical design, development, testing, production support, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-scale Java applications supporting FX trading.
  • Translate complex business and trading requirements into reliable technical solutions.
  • Develop multithreaded, low-latency software using modern Java and established coding practices.
  • Work with trading concepts and systems including pricing, risk management, and trade execution.
  • Own applications throughout their lifecycle, from solution design and implementation through release, monitoring, support, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain high standards for reliability, stability, code quality, observability, and production readiness.
  • Identify operational risks and improvement opportunities proactively.
  • Investigate and resolve complex incidents across applications, services, tools, and initiatives.
  • Review code and promote engineering best practices.
  • Coach less-experienced developers and support their technical growth, confidence, and ownership.
  • Constructively challenge technical decisions and stakeholder expectations when appropriate.
  • Strengthen collaboration between technology teams and Financial Markets stakeholders.

Working Environment

The role is based in a collaborative and international DevOps team within ABN AMRO's Financial Markets division. It combines software engineering and business interaction, with a direct impact on FX trading applications. The environment is technically challenging, fast-paced, and focused on teamwork, knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and end-to-end ownership. Hybrid working applies, with approximately three days per week in the office.

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience developing enterprise software in Java 17 or later.
  • Senior-level experience with Spring Boot and the Spring Framework.
  • Experience building scalable, multithreaded, low-latency applications.
  • Knowledge of Financial Markets and trading systems.
  • Understanding of pricing, risk management, and trade-execution processes.
  • Experience translating business requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • An advanced degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a comparable discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable Experience

  • Detailed knowledge of Foreign Exchange trading.
  • Strong experience with the FIX protocol and its use with trading platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • An affinity for quantitative engineering and complex financial or computational problems.
  • Proficiency with GitHub Copilot or similar AI-powered coding assistants.
  • Experience maintaining code quality through reviews, testing, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience in a DevOps environment, including production support, incident resolution, monitoring, releases, and continuous improvement.
