Details
Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Mobile Engineer to build and evolve high-performance instrumentation SDKs for iOS. The role focuses on mobile observability, including traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions, with integrations for OpenTelemetry and Grafana Cloud.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve mobile instrumentation SDKs for iOS using Swift and Objective-C, prioritizing performance, stability, and developer experience.
- Design and ship features such as session tracking, crash reporting, sampling strategies, automatic context propagation, and OpenTelemetry integrations.
- Own projects end to end.
- Break down large, ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables by designing modular solutions, shipping MVPs, gathering feedback, and iterating quickly.
- Ensure quality through automated tests, CI, documentation, and smooth, backward-compatible upgrade paths.
- Collaborate with backend, frontend, product, and solutions engineering teams to ensure cohesive end-to-end observability workflows.
- Engage with the open-source community by reviewing pull requests, discussing design proposals, and guiding external contributors.
- Mentor teammates, participate in technical design discussions, and help shape the mobile observability roadmap.
Requirements
- Strong mobile engineering experience with iOS, Swift, and Objective-C; Android experience with Kotlin or Java is optional.
- Demonstrated experience building or maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or other developer-facing platform code used by external developers.
- Experience working with performance-sensitive code, including startup time, memory usage, and network efficiency, and making pragmatic trade-offs.
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, including instrumentation, SDKs, and collectors, or experience contributing to or maintaining OpenTelemetry SDKs or similar telemetry libraries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
- Customer-focused, coachable, and passionate about developer experience, documentation, mentoring, and roadmap development.
- Pragmatic and comfortable navigating ambiguity, prioritizing progress over perfection and iterating based on feedback.
Bonus Qualifications
- Contributions to OpenTelemetry, crash-reporting libraries, or other observability open-source software.
- Experience with cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter, or with building native bindings and bridges.
- Experience with mobile security, privacy, or platform integration challenges.
- Previous work on crash aggregation, session replay, or sampling for mobile telemetry.
Benefits
- Compensation in Sweden of SEK 775,000–969,300 per year, with actual compensation based on level, experience, and skills.
- Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
- 100% remote work and a global culture.
- Career growth opportunities.
- In-person onboarding.
- Global annual leave policy of 30 days per year, including three Grafana Shutdown Days.
- Open-source, transparent, and high-trust working environment.
