Details

Grafana Labs is building high-performance, low-overhead mobile instrumentation SDKs for Grafana Cloud and OpenTelemetry. The Mobile Observability initiative provides mobile developers with SDKs for capturing traces, metrics, logs, crashes, and user sessions.

Responsibilities

Build and evolve mobile instrumentation SDKs for iOS using Swift and Objective-C, prioritizing performance, stability, and developer experience.
Design and ship SDK features including session tracking, crash reporting, sampling strategies, automatic context propagation, and OpenTelemetry integrations.
Own projects end to end.
Break large, ambiguous problems into incremental deliverables by designing modular solutions, shipping MVPs, gathering feedback, and iterating quickly.
Ensure quality through automated tests, CI, documentation, and smooth, backwards-compatible upgrade paths.
Collaborate with backend, frontend, product, and solutions engineering teams to deliver cohesive end-to-end observability workflows.
Engage with the open-source community by reviewing pull requests, discussing design proposals, and guiding external contributors.
Mentor teammates, participate in technical design discussions, and help shape the mobile observability roadmap.

Requirements

Strong mobile engineering experience with iOS, Swift, and Objective-C; Android experience with Kotlin or Java is optional.
Demonstrated experience building or maintaining mobile SDKs, platform libraries, or other developer-facing platform code used by external developers.
Experience working with performance-sensitive code, including startup time, memory usage, and network efficiency, and making pragmatic tradeoffs.
Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, including instrumentation, SDKs, or collectors, or experience contributing to or maintaining OpenTelemetry SDKs or similar telemetry libraries.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
Customer-focused, coachable, and passionate about developer experience, documentation, mentoring, and roadmap development.
Pragmatic approach to ambiguity, with an emphasis on progress, iteration, and feedback.

Bonus Qualifications

Contributions to OpenTelemetry, crash-reporting libraries, or other observability open-source software.
Experience with cross-platform frameworks such as React Native or Flutter, or with building native bindings and bridges.
Experience with mobile security, privacy, or platform integration challenges.
Experience with crash aggregation, session replay, or sampling for mobile telemetry.

The compensation range in the UK is £91,000–£114,000. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset. Applicants based in Spain, Ireland, Germany, the UK, or Sweden are being considered at this time.
