Details
Grafana Labs is seeking an experienced software engineer to join the k6 Core team. k6 is an open-source performance testing tool written in Go and designed to make performance testing practical, approachable, and useful in real-world engineering workflows.
The role involves building and maintaining the k6 codebase, contributing to the open-source project and community, and developing features from initial idea through implementation and delivery. Work may also involve Go services supporting the k6 cloud offering and distributed test execution across data centers worldwide.
The team works with a high degree of independence and asynchronous collaboration. Engineers participate in design, implementation, code reviews, releases, architecture, user-facing behavior, and maintaining the health of the open-source project. The role requires sound technical judgment, attention to performance and correctness, and the ability to work on problems that are not fully specified in advance.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain k6, a performance testing tool written in Go.
- Develop features and improvements across the k6 codebase.
- Work on problems from initial idea through implementation and delivery.
- Contribute directly to the open-source project and collaborate with its community.
- Develop and maintain Go services supporting distributed test execution in the k6 cloud offering.
- Ensure production-quality code, reliability, maintainability, and preservation of existing functionality.
- Collaborate with engineers on design, implementation, and code reviews.
- Own product architecture, releases, user-facing behavior, and the health of the open-source project.
- Use modern AI coding assistants for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups within security guidelines and with strong code review standards.
Requirements
- Strong experience building production software in Go, or another language with good support for concurrency and parallelism.
- Experience working on larger or long-lived codebases.
- Ability to work independently on scoped problems and deliver them to completion.
- Clear technical communication skills, particularly in code reviews and design discussions.
- Good understanding of internet protocols such as HTTP, gRPC, and WebSockets.
- Familiarity with lower-level networking concepts.
- Experience with modern development practices, including testing, code review, and iterative development.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects.
- Experience using k6 in production or contributing to the k6 project or ecosystem.
- Experience with performance, reliability, or network testing and optimization.
- Experience with distributed systems or cloud-based services.
- JavaScript and/or TypeScript experience.
- Experience with backend systems for web or mobile applications.
- Familiarity with Docker, AWS, microservices architectures, and observability tools such as Grafana or APM systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation range in Ireland: EUR 104,000–124,800 per year.
- Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) are included with all roles.
- 100% remote work in a global culture.
- Company-funded usage budget for modern AI coding assistants.
