Details

Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and maintain k6, an open-source performance testing tool written in Go. The role involves working across the k6 codebase and, where applicable, the k6 cloud offering for distributed testing across data centers worldwide.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain features and improvements across the k6 codebase, from initial idea through implementation and delivery.
Work on problems that require understanding context, evaluating trade-offs, and selecting pragmatic technical approaches.
Develop production-quality code and maintain existing functionality.
Improve system reliability and maintainability over time.
Contribute to Go services supporting distributed test execution.
Collaborate with engineers on design, implementation, and code reviews.
Work independently while contributing to architecture, releases, user-facing behavior, and the health of the open-source project.
Participate in testing, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups, including the use of AI coding assistants within security guidelines.

Requirements

Strong experience building production software in Go, or another language with strong support for concurrency and parallelism.
Experience working on larger or long-lived codebases.
Ability to work independently on scoped problems and deliver them to completion.
Clear technical communication skills, particularly in code reviews and design discussions.
Good understanding of internet protocols including HTTP, gRPC, and WebSockets, with some familiarity with lower-level networking concepts.
Experience with modern development practices, including testing, code review, and iterative development.

Bonus Skills

Contributing to or maintaining open-source projects.
Experience using k6 in production or contributing to the k6 project or ecosystem.
Performance, reliability, network testing, or optimization experience.
Distributed systems or cloud-based services.
JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
Backend systems for web or mobile applications.
Docker, AWS, microservices architectures, Grafana, or APM and other observability tools.

Work Environment

The company operates remotely by default, with asynchronous collaboration, decisions captured in pull requests and design notes, and meetings used primarily for alignment. The role is based in Spain and is 100% remote. In-person onboarding is provided.

Compensation and Benefits

Base compensation in Spain: EUR 82,988–EUR 99,586 per year.
Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) are included with all roles.
