Details

Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Retail DEX team within the Consumer & Business group. The team operates the data and trading systems powering onchain (DEX) trading within the Coinbase app, enabling millions of traders to buy and sell more than 70 million tokens across major blockchains, including Base and Solana. The role involves building software systems across both off-chain and onchain environments to provide a unified trading experience.

Responsibilities

Integrate new blockchains, decentralized exchanges, and launchpads into the Coinbase app to expand onchain asset availability.
Design and implement first-party smart contracts for onchain trading primitives, including DEX aggregation and advanced order types.
Scale real-time data pipelines to process more than 100,000 messages per second with millisecond-latency blockchain market-data processing.
Optimize the trading stack end to end to improve execution speed, fill quality, and asset coverage for DEX traders.
Develop agentic-first development patterns, including self-improving software systems and tooling that accelerate team velocity.

Requirements

5+ years of backend software engineering experience, with demonstrated success building and operating production data systems or data pipelines.
Hands-on experience designing data-intensive systems and integrating with large-scale data infrastructure such as Kafka, ClickHouse, StarRocks, Temporal, and Redis.
Proven experience designing and integrating onchain smart contracts on EVM platforms, including Ethereum or Base, or on Solana, with a deep understanding of the programming models of one or more of these virtual machines.
Experience building, iterating on, and improving agentic-first code repositories and software systems in production environments.
Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintain human oversight, and deliver business-ready outputs that improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Work Environment

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only, company. Employees are expected to participate in quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Compensation

The target annual base salary is CAD 191,100, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, and vision benefits.
