Details
The Service Tools team enables Airbnb backend developers to develop, test, and maintain their code quickly and reliably. The team owns the standard development lifecycle for service owners, including AI integration for service development, integration testing, and service deployment.
Responsibilities
- Build the next-generation build system using technologies such as Bazel.
- Develop integrations between the build system and CI/CD tooling, including merge queues, code coverage, and integration testing.
- Improve the IntelliJ editor experience for backend developers.
- Shape technical strategy to improve Developer Experience, Developer Velocity, Debuggability, Resilience, and Reliability while reducing costs.
- Partner with engineering leaders across Airbnb to drive adoption of new capabilities.
- Act as a player/coach to ensure code quality, commitment to craft, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate through product reviews, code reviews, and architecture discussions.
Requirements
- 6+ years of industry experience.
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working directly on build systems; hands-on Bazel experience is preferred.
- Experience working with large monorepos.
- Extensive JVM experience.
- Proficiency in one or more backend server languages, such as Java, Ruby, Go, or C++.
- Experience with architectural patterns for high-scale distributed products and services, including well-designed APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
- Experience or interest in working collaboratively in cross-functional teams with design, product, and data science partners.
- Ability and motivation to take on large, open-ended projects and drive significant business impact.
- Interest in improving teammate productivity and joining an impactful infrastructure team.
Work Location
This position is US remote eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Employees must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity, subject to the company's list of excluded states.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range is $196,000–$230,000 USD per year. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. Actual base pay depends on factors including training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
