Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”
As a Software Engineer on the CDP Foundations team within the Developer group, you will build core platform capabilities that enable businesses to launch and scale crypto products. The team owns foundational experiences and primitives spanning the developer portal, shared customer services, custodial accounts and taxes, and KYC/KYB onboarding and eligibility APIs. You will design and ship backend services and APIs that help partners and their customers securely access Coinbase’s crypto infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Build, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing backend services in microservices and distributed architectures.
- Define internal and customer-facing APIs that serve as building blocks for CDP, prioritizing clean design and a high-quality developer experience.
- Lead end-to-end feature delivery from implementation through deployment and monitoring.
- Strengthen operational excellence by proactively addressing technical debt and improving reliability and observability.
- Participate in code reviews and an on-call rotation.
- Lead incident response and foster a team environment that welcomes constructive feedback and maintains high code quality standards.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional experience building and maintaining production backend services in a microservices or distributed systems environment.
- Experience designing and shipping internal or customer-facing APIs, with a focus on developer experience and clean interface design.
- Familiarity with deploying and testing in microservice ecosystems, including structured observability and monitoring tooling.
- Ability to communicate technical trade-offs clearly in writing and in live discussions with cross-functional partners.
- Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
- Experience using generative AI tools and copilots such as LibreChat, Gemini, or Glean, applying human-in-the-loop practices and continuously learning as the tools evolve.
Compensation
Annual base salary ranges from $152,405 to $179,300 USD, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
