Responsibilities

  • Build solutions to complex problems, including problems without clear precedent.
  • Learn unfamiliar systems through independent research and collaboration with mentors or subject matter experts.
  • Work collaboratively on multi-person coding projects.
  • Communicate clearly in writing with stakeholders, team members, and other Stripes.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate development while applying critical thinking and professional judgment to review, refine, and validate outputs.
  • Contribute to code reviews and safely update production systems.
  • Navigate and manage work in large codebases.
  • Lead small projects independently and contribute to larger projects alongside peers.
  • Navigate complex technical obstacles independently and identify when to ask for help.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a directly related field, obtained by summer 2027, or equivalent work experience.
  • New graduate candidates must have no more than 18 months of professional experience, excluding internship experience.
  • Programming experience through side projects or classwork. Stripe works mostly with Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Scala, and Go; candidates should have strong programming fundamentals and general knowledge, as new languages can be learned.
  • Experience from previous internships or collaborative coding projects in a university or professional setting.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and develop an understanding of them through independent research and work with mentors or subject matter experts.
  • Clear written communication skills and the ability to explain work to stakeholders, team members, and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized knowledge in frontend, backend, infrastructure, or another technology area, balanced with general technical skills and knowledge.
  • Experience with code review practices and safely updating production systems.
  • Familiarity with navigating and managing large codebases.
  • Experience leading small projects independently and contributing to larger projects with peers.
  • High agency when navigating complex technical obstacles, including knowing when to unblock oneself and when to ask for help.
