About the Team

The Workload team maintains the core components of OpenAI's training and inference frameworks and helps execute frontier experiments. The team is hiring software engineers to improve productivity across the Workload organization.

About the Role

This role focuses on the developer experience of working in and around OpenAI's core training and inference frameworks.

Responsibilities

Optimize the development workflows of engineers across the organization.
Work with various Workload teams to address their specific needs while collaborating with centralized teams that own different aspects of the development experience.
Improve iteration speed broadly, including by optimizing the continuous integration systems of specific teams.
Improve reliability, including by driving testing strategies for particular components.
Address the broad range of work involved in building libraries and systems that support researchers.

Requirements

A strong belief in the importance of developer experience and enabling engineers to iterate quickly and confidently.
A proactive approach to identifying recurring problems and implementing solutions.
Pragmatism and the ability to prioritize problems effectively.
An interest in working end-to-end, with an ability to understand both system users and the systems themselves.
Experience or interest in working with Python.
