Staff Software Engineer, Developer Ecosystem

Reddit is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the future of its developer platform. The role works across backend, platform, and full-stack systems to make it easier for developers to build useful, creative, and engaging apps on Reddit. You will help define the technical direction of the platform, lead major initiatives, and build the foundation for new developer experiences while collaborating with engineers, product managers, designers, and other teams.

Responsibilities

• Make the developer platform easier, faster, and more powerful to build on.
• Design and build platform features used by developers across the platform.
• Lead major technical initiatives from early exploration through launch.
• Build systems and tools that support future developer experiences.
• Work across backend, infrastructure, client, and full-stack components.
• Build and evolve core platform services and capabilities that power the developer experience.
• Create capabilities that help external developers build applications on Reddit.
• Contribute across the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
• Review code, design documents, product specifications, and user experiences.
• Help shape team strategy and the future direction of the platform.
• Share knowledge, mentor teammates, and contribute to a culture of thoughtful ownership.

Requirements

• 6+ years of industry experience working on platform functionality, developer tools, full-stack products, or app platforms.
• Experience leading large-scale technical projects from design through delivery.
• Strong backend or platform engineering experience, with the ability to work across the stack when needed.
• Familiarity with technologies such as C++, Java, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, or React.
• Regular use of AI tools to improve productivity and software quality.
• A track record of mentoring engineers and improving software engineering practices.
• A passion for building high-quality software that people enjoy using.
• An entrepreneurial mindset: self-directed, curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and eager to turn ideas into action.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences in a fully remote environment.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $217,000–$303,900 USD. Final offer amounts depend on factors including skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses or credentials.
