About the Team
The Infrastructure team owns core components used by all product teams to build microservices that support Stripe’s business. The team defines and drives the vision required to achieve best-in-class scale and availability. Technologies used include Linux OS, Kubernetes, AWS EC2, and AWS networking components.
The team continuously invests in building new distributed services and scaling existing technologies while working with teams across the company to meet their current and future needs. The Compute organization manages OS components, cloud infrastructure, Linux servers, container orchestration, and deployments.
Responsibilities
- Design, plan, build, and maintain container infrastructure used by all Stripe service teams.
- Lead technical conversations and decision-making with infrastructure and backend teams.
- Mentor and grow the next generation of technical leaders at Stripe.
- Participate in roadmap planning and prioritization.
- Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack.
- Work on scaling, automation, reliability, and observability of infrastructure services.
- Identify shared compute needs across Stripe, understand specific requirements, and prioritize solutions.
- Build new features at large scale while improving internal engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
- 15+ years of professional experience in software development or DevOps automation.
- Several years of networking experience in development or system administration.
- Experience with Kubernetes.
- Experience leading projects at a cross-team or company-wide scale.
- A strong engineering background in distributed infrastructure services.
- Experience optimizing the reliability and security of distributed systems.
- Experience scaling and migrating systems with little to no downtime.
- Experience mentoring engineers at various stages of their careers.
- Experience using at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, OCI, or Google Cloud.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and debugging distributed systems.
- Experience with operations culture and a deep understanding of metrics, alarms, and dashboards.
