Issue Workflow is Sentry's primary product surface. Its issue platform processes billions of events daily and turns them into actionable insights that help millions of developers fix bugs faster. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will architect systems powering this experience at the intersection of high-scale distributed systems and product engineering.

Responsibilities

Drive the technical strategy and roadmap for the Issue Workflow platform in partnership with engineering leadership, product, and design.
Shape the multi-quarter technical vision and make strategic decisions about architecture, technology choices, and technical debt.
Solve complex performance and scalability challenges across real-time data pipelines, search backends, and analysis systems.
Build systems that support issue grouping, fast search, sophisticated agentic workflows, and billions-of-events scale.
Champion product quality and user experience, including performance, interfaces, error messages, loading states, edge cases, and instrumentation.
Mentor and elevate other engineers in systems design, coding practices, and product thinking.
Collaborate with Product and Design to shape user-focused solutions and explain technical constraints in user-centric terms.

Requirements

10+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, ideally with Python and TypeScript.
Experience as a distributed systems engineer working with high-scale architectures.
Understanding of eventual consistency, partitioning strategies, caching layers, query optimization, graceful degradation, and designing for failure.
Expertise in domain modeling, distributed systems, data stores, and message queues.
Strong full-stack understanding, including data ingestion, API design, frontend performance, and browser-rendered user experiences.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, and Kafka is preferred.
A product-minded approach and experience mentoring and supporting the growth of other engineers.
