Staff Software Engineer, Web Platform

Anthropic's Web Platform team builds the foundational infrastructure, shared components, APIs, and tooling that support Claude.ai across web, mobile, desktop, and browser-extension surfaces. The role focuses on building systems that improve developer velocity, product reliability, and engineering productivity across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Improve developer velocity by reducing friction in build, deployment, and testing pipelines.
• Identify and resolve latency issues, improve observability, and establish high standards for platform reliability and performance.
• Design and build shared UI components, libraries, and abstractions for web and mobile product teams.
• Evolve backend-for-frontend APIs and client-server architecture supporting frontend applications.
• Partner with product engineering teams to understand their needs, unblock them, and shape platform investments.
• Maintain and improve documentation and tooling for engineers using the platform.

Requirements

• Strong practical skills in modern web technologies, including React and TypeScript or comparable frameworks.
• Experience designing or consuming APIs that serve frontend applications.
• A track record of building tools and systems that improve developer productivity and developer experience.
• Strong instincts around reliability, observability, and performance, with experience applying them to production systems.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, collaborative, cross-functional environments.
• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience is preferred, including significant experience building shared platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure.
• Experience with shared component libraries, design systems, or reusable UI infrastructure is preferred.
• Experience with API design, client-server architecture, performance optimization, CI/CD, build systems, deployment automation, observability, and monitoring is preferred.

Logistics

Compensation

• Annual salary: $320,000–$405,000 USD
