Engineering Manager, UI Platform

Anthropic is seeking an engineering leader to own the foundational platform powering Claude.ai across web, mobile, desktop, and browser extension surfaces. The role will lead the team responsible for shared infrastructure, APIs, tooling, reliability, latency, developer velocity, and common UI components.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the UI Platform team, setting technical direction for reliability, performance, and developer experience across Claude.ai surfaces.
• Own foundational systems, including shared components, build and deployment pipelines, observability, and performance infrastructure.
• Improve developer velocity by reducing friction, enhancing tooling, and enabling teams to ship features faster and more safely.
• Establish and maintain high standards for latency, reliability, and quality across the platform.
• Partner with product engineering, infrastructure, and leadership to align platform investments with product priorities.
• Create clarity and direction in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
• Build a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure for consumer-facing products.
• 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing and growing teams in high-growth environments.
• Deep expertise in modern web development stacks, including React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• A strong track record of building developer experience tools and systems that improve engineering productivity.
• Strong knowledge of reliability, observability, and performance, with the ability to operationalize these at scale.
• Ability to balance technical depth with strategic thinking and remain hands-on while setting long-term direction.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity and create structure and clarity for a team.
• Effective cross-functional communication and alignment-building with product, design, and infrastructure partners.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The field of study must be relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Additional Experience

• Building and scaling platforms for multiple surfaces, including web, mobile, desktop, and extensions.
• Performance optimization and latency reduction in consumer-facing applications.
• CI/CD, build systems, and deployment automation at scale.
• Observability and monitoring systems, including metrics, logging, and tracing.
• Working on AI/ML products or in rapidly evolving product environments.

Compensation

• Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

Logistics

• Anthropic currently expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time under its location-based hybrid policy.
• Anthropic sponsors visas where possible and makes reasonable efforts to obtain visas for candidates who receive an offer, supported by an immigration lawyer.
