Details
AI & Analytics Model Risk is part of ABN AMRO’s Model Risk Management & Model Validation department. The department is responsible for model risk management and validation of models within AI, financial crime, compliance, marketing, audit, operations, innovation and technology, human resources, and generative AI domains throughout the bank. The team consists of approximately 8–10 highly qualified professionals located in Amsterdam.
The role leads the department and reports directly to the Head of Model Risk Management & Model Validation. It is also a member of the department’s management team and involves collaboration with senior management, internal and external auditors, the European Central Bank, regulators, Risk, Compliance, COO, Innovation & Technology, and CRO IT & Cyber.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and execution of the Model Risk Management Framework, including model discovery, tiering, inventory management, validation, risk reporting, risk monitoring, risk assessment, and setting the Risk Appetite Statement.
- Direct and coordinate the tracking of outstanding model-related findings, ensuring timely assessment and closure.
- Oversee the management and administration of Methodology Acceptance Groups and model risk reporting.
- Define and maintain model validation requirements and procedures.
- Identify and signal issues through validation and other oversight activities, and provide proposals for corrective actions.
- Transition teams from a model validation focus to a Model Risk Management & Model Validation orientation.
- Integrate Model Risk Management tasks with the Model Validation department.
- Change the way of working from process-oriented execution to risk-aware prioritization and execution.
- Expand Model Risk Management coverage across the full organization.
- Foster a deep understanding of model risk and risk management within the team.
Requirements
- An academic degree and at least 10 years of leadership experience.
- Relevant and proven experience in risk management.
- A proven track record of maintaining and strengthening stakeholder relationships at ELG and ELT level.
- Deep model risk knowledge and a robust risk management toolkit.
- Extensive knowledge of risk management practices and banking, including products and client propositions, related risks, regulations, and models.
- Extensive experience managing teams of highly skilled and trained professionals.
- Good understanding of developments in the financial industry and the ability to relate them to ABN AMRO’s activities.
- Strong execution capability and a results-oriented mindset.
- Clear vision and strategy for the department, contributing to the bank-wide strategy.
- Strong relationship-building and cross-department collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
