Details
As an IT Platform Engineer within the Innovation department, you operate at the highest level of engineering maturity. You co-design, build, and govern highly complex bank-wide solutions, help shape technical direction, enable experimentation, and translate innovation into scalable, secure, and compliant production systems.
The ABN AMRO Innovation Platform Engineering team maintains and evolves applications, ensures compliance with bank standards, and deploys and manages infrastructure in line with those standards to explore emerging technologies. You work in a multidisciplinary environment with Innovation Managers, senior engineers, architects, and business stakeholders, acting as a technical authority within your domain.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain highly complex, bank-wide platforms and services.
- Define and own the technical roadmap for platform engineering, ensuring alignment across teams and initiatives.
- Act as the technical lead and authority for complex engineering challenges.
- Set engineering standards and best practices.
- Proactively identify and mitigate architectural, operational, and security risks.
- Coordinate activities across multiple teams and domains, ensuring cross-team alignment and reuse of capabilities.
Working Environment
The Innovation department within Innovation & Technology plays a central role in delivering ABN AMRO's innovation agenda in close collaboration with Client Units and Functions. It consists of four teams: Innovation Tech and Support, AI, Digital Assets, and Embedded Banking.
The Innovation Tech and Support team is a shared-services support team with the capabilities required to enable innovation initiatives led by the AI, Embedded Banking, and Digital Assets teams. The team also facilitates the overall operations of the Innovation department. Members contribute directly to innovation initiatives based on their expertise.
Requirements
Technology Stack
- Cloud: Azure.
- Container orchestrators and services: AKS, Container Apps, or App Service.
- DevOps tooling: Azure DevOps.
- Observability: Azure Monitor and Log Analytics Workspaces; basic knowledge required.
- Identity and access management: Microsoft Entra ID is desirable.
Technical Skills
- Proven knowledge and experience running containerized workloads in Azure cloud production environments within corporate environments; 8 years or more is expected.
- Solid IAM and networking concepts.
- Proficiency writing Infrastructure as Code using Bicep and Terraform.
- Proven experience automating development, security, and operations using CI/CD solutions, preferably Azure DevOps.
- Ability and enthusiasm to automate repetitive tasks using scripting languages and/or Infrastructure as Code.
- Understanding of security in public cloud and containerized workloads.
- Strong programming expertise, such as Python, Java, TypeScript, or equivalent, and experience designing backend-heavy systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain good relationships with developers and reduce friction through automation.
- Ability to translate complex technical topics into clear narratives for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Automated testing experience.
- Relevant industry certifications, such as Azure or Kubernetes certifications.
- Interest in new trends in cloud and DevSecOps, including keeping up to date through relevant blogs, articles, meetups, and conferences.
- In-depth understanding of security, risk, compliance, and non-functional requirements in regulated environments.
