Details

ClickHouse is building integrations that bring ClickHouse Cloud into the environments customers already trust, including major cloud data platforms, BI and visualization tools, and developer and data platforms connected through marketplaces and identity federation.

As the founding backend engineer, you will set the technical direction for the team and own integrations across design, implementation, and production operation. You will work with external platforms, partner approval cycles, unfamiliar deployment topologies, and trust boundaries that ClickHouse does not fully control.

Responsibilities

Own integration architecture, including authentication and identity flows, multi-tenancy, data movement and residency, performance, and production behavior.
Run the systems you build, including infrastructure, CI, deployment, observability, and on-call responsibilities.
Build on external platforms that ClickHouse cannot change and manage risks arising from incomplete documentation or platform changes.
Partner with internal teams whose services the integrations depend on by defining interfaces and resolving dependencies.
Establish technical defaults and direction for a growing engineering team.
Document technical decisions through design documents, PRs, and RFCs.

Requirements

5+ years of software development experience, including significant work on data-heavy or integration-focused systems.
Strong backend and systems engineering skills, including deployment topology, multi-tenancy, data movement, and architectural tradeoffs.
Experience with modern authentication protocols, service principals, and identity federation across trust boundaries.
Experience building on third-party platforms with incomplete documentation or breaking changes.
Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and make sound decisions under uncertainty.
Strong collaboration and communication skills when working across teams.
Primarily backend-focused, with sufficient JavaScript or TypeScript experience to contribute when needed.
Effective and transparent use of AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot.
Strong technical writing skills.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with a major cloud data or analytics platform ecosystem.
Deep experience with authentication and identity federation, or experience shipping through a partner marketplace or certification process.
Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms, including isolation and deployment topology.
Working knowledge of ClickHouse or another columnar or OLAP engine.

Compensation

The typical starting salary in the United States is $141,000–$208,000 USD. A premium market range of $157,000–$238,000 USD may apply in locations such as the San Francisco Bay Area and the New York City Metro Area.
