Details

Airbnb's Listing Integrity team works to proactively detect and remove fraudulent listings across Homes, Experiences, and Services. The team uses data-driven heuristics, machine learning models, and customer service operations to help guests search and book with confidence.

As a Software Engineer on the Listing Integrity team, you will collaborate with data scientists, designers, product managers, machine learning engineers, and customer service operations to develop ways to prevent fraudulent listings, reduce financial losses, and protect Airbnb users. The role involves investigating end-to-end systems to understand how fraud occurs and identifying high-impact opportunities to reduce fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Work with large-scale backend systems to detect fraudsters using rules and productionized machine learning models.
  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers, product managers, operations, and data scientists to identify opportunities for business impact.
  • Understand, refine, and prioritize requirements for fraud detection and mitigation.
  • Build tooling and automation to help operations reduce fraud more effectively.
  • Build user challenges that prevent fraudulent listings while minimizing impact on legitimate users.
  • Develop location-verification user challenges, automate fraud investigations, improve operations tooling, build data pipelines for machine learning, and reduce fraud at scale.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of industry experience building systems at scale; relevant master's or doctoral degree experience is also considered.
  • Passion for building user-facing products or large backend systems.
  • Experience with one or more of Ruby/Ruby on Rails, Java, JavaScript, Python, or Scala.
  • Ability to write high-performance, production-quality code.
  • Exposure to architectural patterns for large-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
  • Experience or desire to work collaboratively with design, product, data science, and research partners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, including legal and operations teams.
  • Experience with the Trust and Risk domain is a plus.

Location

This position is US remote eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity, subject to Airbnb's list of excluded states.
