Reddit's Brand Ad Formats team develops high-visibility, awareness-driven advertising solutions that help advertisers maximize reach and brand impact. The team is building fully customizable interactive formats and AI-driven ads incorporating user-generated content, with a growing focus on Video Ads.

As a Staff Android Engineer, you will lead the technical strategy for making Reddit's Video Ads a premier offering for brand advertisers. You will also build and provide technical guidance on new Reddit-specific ad formats for Android, ensuring they are high-performance, high-quality, and scalable.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Product and Design to create a roadmap for transforming Reddit's Video Ads into an industry-leading format.
• Drive the technical design and execution of projects that implement the Video Ads roadmap.
• Provide technical guidance for video ads and Reddit-specific ad formats that scale to millions of users.
• Establish Android best practices and conduct design reviews.
• Lead the full development lifecycle, from discovery and prototyping through testing, data-driven experimentation, and deployment.
• Mentor senior engineers across teams in ad formats.
• Establish best practices for design, testing, and operational excellence.
• Lead by example in understanding and advocating for customers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• At least 3 years of deep Android expertise using Kotlin and modern Android architectural patterns.
• Completion of at least four Android development projects from ideation through production deployment.
• Prior experience in ad technology and building highly interactive or rich-media mobile experiences.
• A track record of delivering user-facing features where UI polish and performance are critical.
• Ability to navigate complex, data-intensive environments and build fault-tolerant client-side systems.
• Experience leveraging generative AI tools to improve software engineering productivity.
• Fluency working with product metrics and designing and analyzing experiments, with exposure to tools such as BigQuery, HEX, and Firebase.
• Openness to working across the stack and exploring innovative approaches, including AI/ML integration.
• Self-directed, innovative, and action-oriented approach, with the ability to thrive in ambiguity.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a fully remote environment with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong technical leadership and experience mentoring and developing team members.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation

The base salary range is $217,000–$303,900 USD. The position is also eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units and may be eligible for a commission depending on the position offered. Reddit provides additional benefits to U.S.-based employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
