The team builds and operates systems that support customer usage calculations, billing, provisioning, cloud marketplace integrations, and customer account management. This role is approximately 75% frontend and 25% backend and involves building production systems where correctness, scalability, reliability, and user experience are critical.
Grafana Labs is a remote-first, global company. The role is remote, and candidates must be based in the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, operate, and evolve reliable full-stack web applications, customer-facing account portals, and backend services supporting customer usage and billing workflows.
- Build and maintain backend APIs using Golang and Node.js, as well as user interfaces using TypeScript and React.
- Design and maintain integrations between Grafana systems and external business platforms such as NetSuite, Salesforce, and cloud marketplaces including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Develop and automate business logic for customer usage metering, pricing structures, promotions, and billing reconciliation.
- Collaborate with product management, DealOps, GTM, Support, and adjacent AppCore squads to deliver robust end-to-end features.
- Address technical debt, optimize CI/CD pipelines, strengthen test coverage, and improve observability and operational resilience.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers while shaping pragmatic solutions for complex systems challenges.
- Contribute to roadmap planning, technical design, on-call improvements, and long-term simplification of stack operations.
- Improve runbooks, dashboards, alerts, reconciliation safety, rollout controls, and recovery procedures.
- Debug across service boundaries and make careful changes to systems affecting customer stacks.
- Write efficient, readable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Design new microservices and systems.
- Collaborate with teammates and other departments to reach consensus on proposed solutions.
- Coordinate with product and UX when needed.
- Respond to customer requests and feedback.
- Participate in a follow-the-sun on-call rotation when ready.
- Participate in team decisions, including roadmap planning and prioritization.
Requirements
- At least one year of fully remote work experience.
- Experience working on a large SaaS platform and dealing with distributed systems concerns such as scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability.
- Strong professional experience with Golang, Node.js, TypeScript, and React.
- Care for developer experience, user experience, and product quality.
- Experience delivering projects from requirements gathering and ideation through product release in a self-directed manner.
- Ability to write clean, robust, well-tested software that other engineers can understand, operate, and maintain.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative, asynchronous environment.
- Ability to break down complex challenges into modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather data and feedback, and iterate.
- Willingness to work across teams and align plans with other squads and external stakeholders.
- Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Helm, Terraform, or Jsonnet.
- Ability to work asynchronously across time zones and take ownership of critical systems.
- Ability to solve problems involving stateful systems, eventual consistency, reconciliation loops, ambiguous lifecycle requirements, and cross-service workflows.
Bonus Points
- Experience with high-volume usage metering, billing engines, or customer-facing cost management applications.
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining integrations with third-party business systems such as NetSuite, Salesforce, and cloud marketplaces.
- Experience with frontend component libraries, design systems, and modern CSS-in-JS tooling.
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, and GCP marketplace integrations and SaaS provisioning or tenancy patterns.
- Experience with SaaS provisioning, tenancy, regional expansion, plugin rollout, or customer lifecycle systems.
- Experience with incident response involving configuration drift, partial failure, or cross-service state mismatch.
Compensation
The United States compensation range is $174,986–$209,983 USD. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skill set. The role includes Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Compensation ranges are country-specific; recruiters will discuss the applicable market pay range and benefits for candidates applying from Canada.
