Airbnb's Payments team supports more than 191 countries, 70 currencies, dozens of payment providers and banks, and processes multiple billions of dollars. The Platform team brings together engineers, designers, and data scientists to build product experiences. Platform Managers own outcomes across foundation, growth, and empowerment by setting vision and strategy, defining roadmaps, and driving execution.
This role will lead Airbnb's regional payments portfolio across Brazil, Mexico, and the broader Latin America region. The position focuses on navigating market-specific regulation, local payment ecosystems, compliance requirements, checkout optimization, local payment methods, and installment products.
Responsibilities
- Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for regional payments across Brazil, Mexico, and the broader region, prioritizing regulatory, growth, and platform initiatives.
- Optimize checkout and conversion by reducing booking friction, improving regional checkout funnels, and increasing authorization, approval, and payment-success rates.
- Expand local payment methods and installment or affordability options, including wallets, bank transfers, and BNPL products.
- Drive the full product lifecycle, including discovery, product requirements documents, launch, ramp, and iteration.
- Use experiments and A/B tests to validate product impact.
- Define product requirements for processor and payment-method integrations in partnership with Partnerships and Engineering.
- Lead regulatory and compliance workstreams with Legal, Tax, Compliance, and Finance teams.
- Define and track key performance indicators across conversion, cost, reliability, and revenue.
- Monitor regulatory changes, competitor activity, and emerging payment rails and incorporate relevant findings into the roadmap.
- Partner with Engineering, Design, Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Compliance, Legal, Partnerships, and Country teams to execute the product vision without direct authority.
Requirements
- 10+ years of product management experience.
- Strong track record building and scaling payments or financial products, including ownership of strategy, roadmap, and execution.
- Deep understanding of the payments stack and the flow of money in a marketplace environment, including pay-ins, payouts, and funds flow.
- Experience improving checkout and purchase-funnel conversion.
- Hands-on knowledge of authorization and settlement, processors and gateways, acquirers, card-scheme rules, 3DS/SCA, tokenization or vaulting, and reconciliation.
- Experience with local payment methods and affordability products, such as wallets, bank transfers, BNPL, and installments.
- Familiarity with the Latin American payments ecosystem, including Pix, SPEI, regional wallets, and installment practices such as parcelamento and meses sin intereses.
- Familiarity with local regulatory frameworks, including the Central Bank of Brazil and SAT Mexico.
- Data-driven approach, including defining KPIs, running experiments, and using analytics to guide decisions.
- Technical acumen and ability to partner closely with engineering teams and explain complex concepts clearly.
- Strong product thinking and user empathy.
- English required; Portuguese and/or Spanish strongly preferred.
Compensation
The monthly base pay range in Mexico is $153,333.33–$191,666.67 MXN. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
