Stripe Terminal helps businesses accept in-person payments through use cases such as retail experiences, pop-up stores, and mobile point-of-sale systems.

The role owns the developer productivity platform for Stripe's Terminal team, designing and building tooling and infrastructure that helps engineers across mobile, backend, and embedded systems work faster and more effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain tools, libraries, and infrastructure that improve engineering productivity across mobile, backend, and embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with mobile engineers to understand workflows and pain points and translate them into practical short-term and long-term solutions.
  • Contribute to and improve build, CI/CD, and test automation systems for SDKs, Android applications, and firmware.
  • Work with stakeholders to prioritize work, balance competing needs, and integrate solutions into existing workflows.
  • Own projects end-to-end, from problem discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and ongoing operation.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and documentation to maintain a high standard of code quality, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Mentor engineers on build, test, and release best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful backend systems experience and experience with Android/mobile or embedded/firmware development.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining production systems or developer tooling.
  • Understanding of how to build scalable, reliable, and observable services, pipelines, or tooling.
  • Experience owning projects from design through implementation, rollout, and ongoing support.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, or Go.
  • Experience building tools or platforms that improve developer productivity, with empathy for internal developer users.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling and pipelines such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions, as well as modern build systems.
  • Experience designing and maintaining automated testing infrastructure, including integration or end-to-end tests, test orchestration, and reducing test flakiness.
  • Experience with Android build and test tooling such as Gradle, emulators, or device farms, or with firmware build pipelines.
  • Experience in payments, point-of-sale, or hardware-integrated systems.
