A Junior Product Manager assists Product Managers in working across a single team and may occasionally lead feature development. The role participates in day-to-day team management while partnering with a Product Manager or Engineering Manager to identify business and customer needs and deliver features for products with a well-understood value proposition.

The role contributes to scoping and delivering product features. In an optimization setting, this may involve achieving incremental performance improvements for a feature. In a new product development setting, this may involve shadowing a Product Manager to validate new concepts and support relevant business decisions.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy

  • Understand the broader product strategy and explain it to the team and other stakeholders.
  • Set the vision for a feature or product over the next year.

Product Delivery

  • Identify and prioritize tasks required to achieve short- and mid-term team objectives.
  • Partner with Product Managers or Senior Product Managers on longer-term direction setting.

Data Fluency

  • Understand the mechanics of important customer or system events in the product.
  • Understand and use both quantitative and qualitative data.

Customer Insight

  • Use techniques such as interviews and surveys to understand customer behavior.
  • Gather customer needs and pain points using techniques such as story mapping and use case design.

Stakeholder Management

  • Identify teams and stakeholders affected by projects.
  • Gather stakeholder requirements and work with a manager to integrate feedback.

Technical Fluency

  • Partner with the Engineering Manager.
  • Understand the technical solutions used to deliver the product.
  • Advocate for customer and business needs when making engineering trade-off decisions.
  • Actively develop technical knowledge relevant to the role.

Community Impact

  • Attend craft community events within the Product Track.
  • Participate in craft community events outside the Product Track.

Communication And Collaboration

  • Steer the team and manage return on investment.
  • Provide input on and help steer track strategy within the broader business unit strategy.
  • Participate in craft communities outside the individual track.
  • Manage stakeholders across the organization at all levels, sharing information through the appropriate medium and at the appropriate time.
  • Identify user needs and ensure their interests are represented in releases.
  • Work with the team to ensure releases are developed by the deadline and within budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Basic job knowledge.
  • 1–3 years of experience in the relevant craft or a transferable discipline, such as engineering, design, commercial work, sales, or marketing.
