This role is part of the JavaScript SDK team and focuses on building SDKs for Node.js, Bun, Deno, Cloudflare Workers, and other modern server-side and edge runtimes. The position involves developing tools used by millions of developers across the JavaScript ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain JavaScript SDKs, with a focus on server-side and edge runtimes including Node.js, Bun, Deno, and Cloudflare Workers.
  • Plan, implement, test, document, and ship software features end to end.
  • Write robust unit and integration tests and create clear documentation for internal teams and customers.
  • Use AI tools to improve productivity and solve complex engineering problems.
  • Collaborate with organizations and committees such as TC39, the Node.js core team, and the OpenTelemetry SIG.
  • Represent Sentry in the open-source community and help shape JavaScript standards and runtime interoperability.
  • Assist the Customer Operations team with critical bugs.
  • Interact with users through GitHub and industry conferences.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer, web developer, or in a similar role.
  • Deep expertise developing web applications, libraries, or SDKs using TypeScript and JavaScript.
  • Hands-on experience with Node.js and meaningful exposure to one or more modern server runtimes such as Bun, Deno, or Cloudflare Workers.
  • Solid understanding of differences between server runtimes in module systems, APIs, performance characteristics, and deployment models.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Based in the Toronto, Canada area or willing to relocate to Toronto.
  • Interest in building high-quality developer tools, contributing to open source, and working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with WinterCG, the Web-interoperable Runtimes Community Group, or other runtime interoperability initiatives.
  • Familiarity with OpenTelemetry instrumentation in server-side or edge environments.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source libraries.
  • Experience engaging with open-source committees or working groups.

The base salary range for this position is CAD $200,000 to $295,000. Actual compensation depends on factors including work location, education, experience, skills, and job-related knowledge.
