Airbnb is seeking a technical, hands-on, and mission-driven Technical Program Manager to join its Payments team. The role supports technology offerings that enable money movement across Airbnb’s global marketplace, including billions of dollars across 191 countries and 75 currencies. The Payments organization includes Payments Platform, Compliance & Operations, Payments Engineering Services, and Payments Data Engineering.

The role partners across technical teams to deliver reliable payment systems, add payment partners, support global licenses and compliance controls, and build payment experiences for guests and Hosts. It requires strong ownership, strategic thinking, cross-functional relationship building, and the ability to support predictable program execution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop program scope and objectives, collaborate with relevant stakeholders, ensure technical feasibility, and drive projects end-to-end.
  • Align staffing, priorities, and technical dependencies within Hosting and cross-functional teams such as Trust, Payments, Infrastructure, and Product.
  • Support quarterly planning and manage ongoing risk escalation and mitigation.
  • Manage the technical design diligence process for large programs, including technical dependencies, reviews, pre-reviews, stakeholder engagement, and meeting quality and efficiency.
  • Communicate key decisions, status updates, and risks to leadership and teams to ensure accountability and timeline management.
  • Identify best practices, drive process improvements, and develop simpler and more productive ways of operating.
  • Drive organization-wide and company-wide technical initiatives as Airbnb evolves its technical stack.
  • Provide visibility into key performance indicators so leaders understand risks and opportunities.
  • Manage project schedules, identify risks, evaluate technical trade-offs with engineers, and maintain clear communication across stakeholder groups.

Requirements

  • Experience developing processes where few exist, with demonstrated flexibility and ability to get things done.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, frame vague problems clearly, identify paths forward, and drive initiatives to completion.
  • Good understanding of software engineering principles and experience working in distributed architecture environments.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable when working with teams that have different operating cadences.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to understand the bigger picture and use technical expertise and problem-solving abilities to prioritize and manage blocking issues.
  • Experience working in highly cross-functional environments where communication with multiple groups is essential.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Excellent written and oral business communication and people skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Jira or equivalent task-management tools.
  • BA/BS degree.
  • 7+ years of experience in the software development industry.

Work Location

This position is US remote eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Compensation

The base pay range is $179,000–$210,000 USD per year. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
