Details

Grafana Labs is hiring a Software Engineer for its new Foundations “Metal” squad. The squad will build and provision storage, networking, and Kubernetes clusters in new environments, starting with Grafana Labs’ own physical hardware. The team will provide a Kubernetes control plane and underlying resources outside public cloud environments to the rest of Engineering.

Grafana Cloud processes millions of metrics, log lines, and traces per second through a highly available, low-latency stack. The Internal Engineering Platform provides application engineers with the tools, systems, and Kubernetes clusters needed to build, deploy, and run their workloads.

This is a remote position for candidates located in the United Kingdom, Spain, or Ireland.

Responsibilities

Manage the physical “Metal” environment, from bare metal to Kubernetes.
Manage cluster networking components, including load balancing, NAT, DNS, CNIs, cross-cluster communication, routing protocols, and architecture.
Manage scheduling and autoscaling.
Maintain Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules for cloud service provider resources common to Grafana Cloud users.
Manage versioning and compatibility for Crossplane, Terraform Core, and their providers.
Work with Grafana Cloud application teams to understand their needs and ensure the team invests in the right capabilities.
Own the full lifecycle of code, including design documentation, developer feedback, and integration testing.
Participate in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

Experience working with distributed systems.
Experience operating code and working across development and operations.
Datacenter experience.
Experience with Kubernetes and platform engineering.
Experience with Go, Python, and Shell.
Ability to work effectively in a remote-first, highly distributed company.
Collaborative, respectful, and consensus-oriented working style.
Willingness to learn and grow.

Bonus Points

Experience with Cluster API, Tinkerbell, Talos, or Ceph.
Experience with open-source or community-based projects.
Experience with cloud service providers, particularly AWS, GCP, and Azure, and their managed Kubernetes services: EKS, GKE, and AKS.
Experience operating and managing workloads on Kubernetes.
Experience with Tanka and Jsonnet for configuration management.
Familiarity with Kubernetes scheduling and projects such as Karpenter.
Experience with Terraform and/or Crossplane.
Enjoyment of programming in Go to build tools, utilities, exporters, and other software.

Compensation

The compensation range in Spain is €65,280–€78,336 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset. The role includes Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
