Details

Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to join the Foundations group and help create the new Platform Metal squad. The squad will build and provision storage, networking, and Kubernetes clusters in new environments, beginning with Grafana Labs' own physical hardware. The team will provide a Kubernetes control plane and underlying resources outside public cloud environments for the wider Engineering organization.

Responsibilities

Manage the physical Metal environment, from bare metal through Kubernetes.
Manage cluster networking components, including load balancing, NAT, DNS, CNIs, cross-cluster communication, routing protocols, and network architecture.
Manage scheduling and autoscaling.
Maintain Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules for cloud service provider resources used by Grafana Cloud teams.
Manage versioning and compatibility for Crossplane, Terraform Core, and their providers.
Work with Grafana Cloud application teams to understand their needs and invest in the right platform capabilities.
Own the full lifecycle of platform code, including design documentation, developer feedback, integration testing, and operations.
Participate in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

Experience working with distributed systems.
Experience operating production code and working across software development and operations.
Datacenter experience.
Comfort working in a remote-first, highly distributed company.
Strong collaborative communication skills and willingness to work by consensus.
Interest in learning and developing in a knowledge-sharing environment.
Experience with Go, Python, and Shell is relevant to the Platform team.

Bonus Qualifications

Experience with Cluster-API, Tinkerbell, Talos, and/or Ceph.
Experience with open-source or community-based projects.
Experience with multiple cloud service providers. Grafana Cloud runs on AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure, using EKS, GKE, and AKS.
Experience operating and managing Kubernetes workloads.
Experience with Tanka and Jsonnet for Kubernetes configuration management.
Familiarity with Kubernetes scheduling and projects such as Karpenter.
Experience with Terraform and/or Crossplane.
Programming experience in Go, including building tools, utilities, and exporters.

Compensation

The Ireland compensation range is €104,000–€124,800 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on level, experience, and skillset. The role includes Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
