Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Grafana Frontend Platform and Navigation squads. Grafana is an open-source observability product and platform used by teams and plugin developers. The Frontend group shapes the user experience across dashboards, visualization, navigation, search, sharing, and the foundations supporting engineering teams and community contributors.

This is a remote opportunity for applicants in the United States who work in Eastern Standard Time (EST) time zones.

Responsibilities

• Be accountable for the performance of two distributed engineering squads by setting expectations, delegating effectively, coaching and developing team members, providing feedback, addressing performance gaps, and building trust and accountability.
• Own hiring and team planning across both squads, aligning capacity and skills with product priorities and long-term needs.
• Lead discovery with customers, community members, and internal users, using feedback, research, and usage evidence to shape roadmaps and priorities.
• Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and balance customer needs, long-term investments, and operational demands.
• Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement, including milestones, risk management, and intervention when commitments are at risk.
• Use AI in management work to synthesize research and feedback, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination, reporting, and follow-through.
• Improve squad planning, decision-making, and delivery through AI and automation across engineering and operational workflows.
• Set engineering direction with senior engineers for frontend foundations, including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities.
• Set engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organization, including AI-assisted discovery.
• Establish engineering standards for quality, security, and operability, including validation of AI-assisted work.
• Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D that increase engineering productivity and business outcomes.
• Participate in the engineering management on-call rotation, coordinate responses, and reduce recurring disruption.
• Use Grafana's AI capabilities for observability, incident investigation, and management, incorporating that experience into product feedback and roadmap decisions.

Requirements

• Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders.
• Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, with the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs and shape architectural and engineering-quality decisions.
• Experience turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results while managing delivery risks and operational demands.
• Strong product and customer judgment, connecting engineering investments to user, developer, and business outcomes.
• Clear, concise written communication and the ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organization.
• Appreciation for open-source development and the ability to balance Cloud-first delivery with the needs of customers, community members, and internal teams.
• Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams in their adoption.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems.
• Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions.
• Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products.
• Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations.
• Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product.
