About Stripe

Stripe is a technology company focused on improving the conditions for economic growth and prosperity. Stripe builds programmable financial infrastructure to make it easier and cheaper for businesses to start and scale. Its products include reliable APIs, financial infrastructure, and risk and fraud systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the assigned team, participating in team discussions, decisions, and the technical design process.
  • Write production software with meaningful impact on Stripe's business and users.
  • Give and receive technical feedback through code reviews and design discussions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to seek and incorporate feedback.
  • Learn quickly by asking questions, working effectively with the intern manager and teammates, communicating work status clearly, and using the latest AI tooling.
  • Own problems end to end with support from managers and teammates.
  • Work on projects across Stripe's technology stack. Recent intern projects have included improving generalized anomaly detection with Stripe's Payments Foundation Model, building fraud controls, creating safer payouts, and developing user-facing solutions to prevent pricing mistakes and simplify merchant checkout setup.

Requirements

  • Strong fundamental understanding of computer science through pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Programming experience through side projects or coursework. Stripe primarily uses Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Go, and Scala, but believes that candidates can learn new programming languages when they have strong fundamentals and general knowledge.
  • Experience from previous internships or other multi-person projects, including open-source contributions, demonstrating the ability to evaluate and receive feedback from mentors, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and develop an understanding of them through independent research and working with mentors or subject-matter experts.
  • Ability to use AI tools to accelerate development while applying critical thinking and professional judgment to review, refine, and validate outputs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of university education or equivalent work experience.
  • Specialized knowledge in one or more areas, such as frontend, backend, infrastructure, or other technologies, balanced with general technical skills and knowledge.
  • Experience writing high-quality pull requests with good test coverage and completing projects with minimal defects.
  • Familiarity with navigating and managing work in new codebases containing multiple languages.
  • Clear written communication skills, including the ability to explain work to stakeholders, team members, and colleagues.
