Who We Are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Stripe’s mission is to increase the GDP of the internet.

About the Team

The internship program provides an opportunity to work on meaningful products that support Stripe’s mission. Interns work with systems and technologies, gain experience in systems design and testing, and present their work to their team and the wider organization. Each intern has a dedicated intern manager, and every project is part of the team’s roadmap.

What You’ll Do

Every internship at Stripe centers around a real project that customers need, involving multiple parts of Stripe’s operations and technology stack. Recent projects have included rebuilding a statistics aggregation service, building service discovery systems, and developing user-facing features such as clearer error messages in Stripe Checkout.

Responsibilities

  • Write production software with meaningful impact to Stripe.
  • Give and receive technical feedback through code reviews and design discussions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to seek and incorporate feedback.
  • Learn quickly by asking questions, working effectively with your intern manager and teammates, and clearly communicating work status.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong fundamental understanding of computer science through pursuit of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Some programming experience through side projects or coursework. Stripe primarily uses Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Scala, and Go, but new programming languages can be learned when strong fundamentals and general knowledge are present.
  • Experience from previous internships or other multi-person projects, including open-source contributions, demonstrating the ability to evaluate and receive feedback from mentors, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and develop an understanding of them through independent research and collaboration with mentors and subject-matter experts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of university education or equivalent work experience.
  • Specialized knowledge balanced with general technical skills, such as frontend expertise and a high-level understanding of how a service handles an HTTP request.
  • Understanding of and some experience writing high-quality pull requests with good test coverage and completing projects with minimal defects.
  • Familiarity with navigating and managing work in new codebases involving multiple languages.
  • Ability to write clearly when explaining work to stakeholders, team members, and other Stripe employees.
