Grafana Labs is seeking an AI Software Engineer with a strong software engineering background, a quick iteration mindset, and a passion for experimentation. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and shipping AI-powered features that work with large datasets and expand analytics-focused AI agents for information retrieval. The position is part of a highly autonomous skunkworks initiative focused on making Grafana a place where humans and AI agents can understand and act on enterprise data.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deliver high-performance AI features that help users discover, organize, and optimize access to large datasets.
  • Rapidly prototype, test, validate, ship, and evolve LLM- and agent-powered workflows for the data engineering lifecycle.
  • Shape AI-driven product features, including integrating agentic components with internal tools such as Slack and alerting systems.
  • Engage with internal data teams for dogfooding and user feedback.
  • Use AI and automation tools to improve product functionality and development workflows.
  • Take full ownership of AI solutions, ensuring they are innovative, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with real user workflows.
  • Communicate effectively and contribute across teams in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Strong experience building production-grade, user-facing software systems.
  • Experience with LLMs, context engineering, and applications powered by generative AI.
  • Proven track record of delivering software that reached production and is actively used by users.
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks, with a practical focus on delivering high-quality real-world solutions.
  • Experience working in cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience using observability tools to understand and troubleshoot system behavior.
  • Ability to work independently, handle ambiguity, define scope, and drive projects forward.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with agent frameworks or multi-agent workflows.
  • Experience as a data analyst or working with data platforms such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Snowflake, or Databricks.
  • Experience building tools for data engineering.
