OpenAI’s Healthcare and Life Sciences AI Success Engineering team partners with healthcare and life sciences organizations to translate AI into patient outcomes. The team supports customers from initial deployment through scaled enterprise adoption, covering technical integration and enablement, workflow transformation, program management, and product delivery.
The AI Success Engineer is the primary post-sales technical point of contact for important customers. This role drives account health and adoption, ensures technical readiness, identifies use cases, and delivers measurable customer value. It combines technical depth, program management, customer advisory, and product influence.
The role is based in San Francisco or New York City with a hybrid schedule of three days per week in the office, or may be performed remotely from anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical relationship for post-sale customers and act as a trusted advisor on deployment, adoption, and value realization.
- Own account health, adoption velocity, and ongoing technical deployment and success across a customer portfolio.
- Become an expert in OpenAI products, including the API and agentic platform, Codex, and ChatGPT Enterprise, and conduct technical enablement and configuration sessions.
- Identify and validate use cases by working with customer teams to understand workflows and pain points.
- Coordinate multiple account-level workstreams, including product activation, change management, rollout, and deployment planning.
- Build relationships with executive sponsors and technical stakeholders and align business goals with OpenAI capabilities.
- Translate customer objectives into actionable adoption roadmaps with sequencing, milestones, and KPIs.
- Partner with Solutions Architecture, Product, Engineering, and Research to surface customer feedback, field patterns, and technical blockers.
- Guide value realization through baselines, KPI definition, and post-deployment reporting.
- Facilitate workshops on use-case design, adoption best practices, champion building, and internal enablement.
- Identify opportunities where OpenAI’s platform can support new workflows or lines of business.
- Advise existing customers on implementation, account setup, and configuration optimization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles such as technical account management, technical generative AI consulting or deployment, solutions architecture, technical delivery leadership, customer architecture or engineering, or other deep technical enterprise adoption work.
- Meaningful experience working with healthcare or life sciences organizations, such as providers, payers, biopharma, medical-device companies, contract research organizations, or health-technology organizations.
- Understanding of healthcare and life sciences data, workflows, regulatory environments, and operating models.
- Scientific or clinical training in a relevant field such as medicine, biology, chemistry, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, or public health.
- Hands-on operational knowledge of OpenAI product capabilities, APIs, SDKs, connectors, and common integration patterns.
- Ability to explain model behavior, limitations, technical tradeoffs, embeddings, retrieval augmentation, and approaches to fine-tuning or custom model usage.
- Experience deploying technology in regulated enterprise environments, including authentication, access controls, encryption, data classification, retention, auditability, and incident response.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH and business associate agreements, global health-data privacy, and where relevant, GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, clinical research, pharmacovigilance, or medical-device regulation.
- Familiarity with coding languages such as Python or JavaScript, REST APIs, SDKs, automation, CI/CD, containers, and cloud platforms.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into clear business language and explain the strategic impact of AI technologies.
- Strong project and program management skills, with the ability to lead multi-workstream initiatives.
- Ability to work with C-level stakeholders and technical teams, manage context switching, and respond to dynamic customer needs.
- Strong record of driving technical deployments and owning adoption and value for large enterprise customers with complex environments and multiple stakeholders.
