Details
Glean is seeking a Design Engineer to join its core product engineering team. This role sits at the intersection of product design and frontend engineering, owning the craft and polish of the Glean experience end to end. The position includes building an AI-forward design system that encodes Glean's design language as rules, components, and agent-consumable skills so engineers and coding agents can consistently ship high-quality products. The role partners closely with the design team and reports into engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design and build polished product experiences across Glean's web, desktop, and mobile applications, including micro-interactions, motion, and complete feature surfaces.
- Evolve Glean's design system, including components, tokens, usage rules, and documentation.
- Make the design system AI-ready by authoring rules, linting, and guidelines that enable AI coding agents to correctly use design-system components and follow best practices.
- Build a product design skill for coding agents that encodes Glean's design judgment.
- Set the bar for frontend craft through prototypes, code reviews, and hands-on collaboration with designers and engineers.
- Rapidly prototype interaction and motion concepts to resolve design questions in code rather than specifications.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience spanning product design and frontend engineering, or exceptional depth in one area with strong fluency in the other.
- Expertise in modern web UI, including TypeScript, React, and CSS.
- Strong instincts for motion, interaction detail, and accessibility.
- Experience building or maintaining a design system at scale, including components, tokens, governance, and adoption.
- Experience with AI-assisted development, including the use of coding agents and an understanding of how to produce high-quality user interfaces with them.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual and interaction craft.
- Self-directed approach, including the ability to identify and address polish gaps without waiting for a specification.
Location
- Hybrid schedule, four days per week, in either the San Francisco or Mountain View office.
Compensation And Benefits
- Base salary range: $115,000–$190,000 annually.
- Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits.
- Medical, vision, and dental coverage.
- Generous time-off policy.
- 401(k) contribution plan.
- Home office improvement stipend.
- Annual education and wellness stipends.
- Regular company events and healthy lunches daily.
